For those who live under a rock, the National Football League officials have been locked out of their jobs because this gazillion dollar organization refuses to give them a pension. Without these 50-60 people, US professional football must have the rules enforced by replacements. The real officials are willing to work while they negotiate, but the badass owners and commissioner who would cry for mommy the first time they were tackled or blocked are playing hardball, damaging the integrity of the game, rising the lives and health of the players and treating us the fans like the mindless apathetic schmucks we are.
We all know this drill. We go on strike or get locked out and Joe the accountant can’t make a tire or Susie the accountant can’t empty a bed pan without gagging, etc. and sooner or later management comes to its senses and bargains a contract.
We may have reached the management’s aha moment last night in the Monday night game when on the last play of the game, the Seattle Seahawks losing by a point threw a desperation “Hail Mary” pass. It was intercepted by a Green Bay player, but the the replacements ruled the wrong way giving the Seahawks the game. Management upheld the call.
I’m betting that management will get their soft, never worked asses back to the table and the refs will get a pension.
