As the number of states in play shrinks, our work on the ground and in the streets, our work as THE political organizing machine becomes ever more important. Every soul we get to the polls now is critical, every disaffected American voter who votes for the middle class, Obama, and Biden is now incredibly important.
Colorado, Wisconsin, Ohio, New Hampshire, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa are now where the heart of the campaign is playing out.
The Obama-Biden team handily won three of the four debates. After the first debate, Obama and Biden turned up the heat and turned on the gas clearly winning the last three debates.
We are dominating early voting in many cases by as much as 2 out of 3 voters.
We have the hope of getting out of Afghanistan and ending more than 12 years of war, trimming the military budget, solidifying Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and finally beginning to rebuild America’s streets and roads, schools, water and sewer systems, rail lines, and much more while putting tens of thousands to work in strong union jobs.
THEN WE MUST BEGIN A MASSIVE CAMPAIGN, FIGHT, STRUGGLE TO CHALLENGE AMERICA’S MASSIVE INEQUALITY.
AND THE HEART OF OUR CAMPAIGN HAS TO BE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND ORGANIZING.
As I said on the Union Edge radio Show yesterday, we gotta win this election, then we gotta fight the vast canyon of inequality. That fight can lift us out of our economic crisis, end 35 years of stagnant wages, promote wage growth that tracks higher and higher productivity.
One of America’s great organizers, Peter Olney of the ILWU, said we have to learn how to move from being on the defense to going on offense. That is why both my books: Getting America Back to Work and Playing Bigger Than You Are: A Life in Organizing are both so important in this moment in history.
Please get both these books so we can bring this election home and pivot to the next imperative.Tags: Barack Obama, BIDEN, election, obama, President Obama, swing states
