Sandy: The Storm of a Lifetime

I was in New York this week to do some media work and appear on the Thom Hartmann show. I had the misfortune of staying on 24th and 6th in Chelsea where I usually stay – close to the Village, rail and bus, and midtown. But this time that didn’t much matter. All week all the power has been out from 25th St south including hotels and restaurants.

As I write this I am still dealing with leaving New York City.

I heard that some of the media have called Sandy the storm of a lifetime. I know it is the storm of my lifetime.

Sandy hit one of the most densely populated areas in the world with a vengeance.

That is why it enrages me to hear radical rightwing Republicans call for privatizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency!

IT IS EVEN MORE MADDENING TO SEE CLIPS OR HEAR VIDEO OF MITT ROMNEY CALLING FOR FEMA’S DESTRUCTION WITH DEVOLUTION TO STATES AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

ROMNEY IS CAMPAIGNING WHILE PRESIDENT OBAMA IS TRYING TO MANAGE THE CRISIS.

Republican Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey has worked closely with the President to coordinate resources to his state – and has been criticized by the Radical Rightwing Republicans and Romney surrogates for working with the President.

Putting political success and partisan politics ahead of the needs of our country and our people in a time like this is UNPATRIOTIC.

Everything turns on turnout.
