Romney and Ryan Will Destroy Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid

I tried. I really tried today to watch the Republican show. I listened to everyone tell us how much Romney is a regular guy and how Ann is gonna prove it. I listened to them say what a great businessman he is – without bothering to say he made his jillions of dollars cutting payrolls to force up the price of stocks he owned, then showing his patriotism by hiding his money offshore and paying pennies on the dollar in taxes while our country is in an awful economic crisis.

I listened to Peter King lie about how Paul Ryan will attract young voters by saving the Big 3 – Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid – all of which they intend to destroy. But when New Hampshire’s John Sununu said they will get the “Hispanic” vote because “Hispanics” are inherently entrepreneurial, I almost lost my lunch.

NOTE to Republicans: It is generally a bad idea to try to appeal to any group by stereotyping them.

I gave up. We gotta overcome their ill-gotten Citizens United dirty money with our ground game, which is why I keep pushing my book Playing Bigger Than You Are: A Life in Organizing. These Republicans are crazy. They scare the shit out of me.

We got our work cut out for us, but folks like us have won tougher fights. Its just gonna take all of us doing all we can.

But I had to take a break tonight so I’m back on Beale St. listenin’ to the Brandon Santini Blues Band wail their asses off. And man did I ever need some hard blues players taking me back to Robert Johnson and Junior Wells talking ’bout Messin’ With The Kid” and their own stuff. When you wail like these brothers you’re spillin’ your soul and your humanity. Thank God for that. Turn loose your humanity. Love your neighbor. Bare your soul sometime. And fight like a junkyard dog for your country and your kids’ future.
