Rolling
Leaving New York City the train
Follows the Hudson into the Adirondacks
Majestic in the cold December air
Rising above the river mountain stacks
Into the sky, they drain
Their water, snow, moisture back to river
Now its little cities – Albany, Schenectady
Engine problem, mechanic comes in a hurry
Conductors talk to us like men talk
About worn, overused equipment, walk
In circles telling stories, smoking cigarettes
Patient with passengers and questions dumb
Mountains rising above the Hudson become
Small bundled up cities, now rolling again
Headed to the next stop, next place
Always moving, rolling, flying, going
