Reelfoot Lake

The sun is warm, not hot
On this July day made for kids and water
All is right, kids talkin’ over each other
Even the swimming can’t burn up their juice
On these days, summer is good
Like it was all those years ago swimmin’ in cow ponds and Reelfoot Lake
All on those sweet days when the hay wasn’t yet ready to bale and put up and nothin’ needed painting – or at least not bad enough to deny a pack of kids a day they’d remember at 60.
Somehow it’s more fun with more kids
The 60 year kid reminds himself how he felt four decades ago when he did the same with a laughing, grinning, goofy kid named Bob whose juice never ran out and who we could never beat in a thousand dunkin’ contests.
