At this elementary school talent show
Where my little girl will perform
Can’t watch the stage, seeing you a thousand images in my mind.
Every time we met at whatever airport
You ready to hike or go out—or welcoming me into your arms and your body.
No need for us to talk only of arms.
You welcomed me into your body, entire body.
So now I understand love
Much more than ever before.
I now know how happiness and joy can depend on someone else.
Don’t ask me to do all this alone any more. I’ve done that
I’ve been that guy.
You know that guy who can do it on his own.
I ain’t him no more. I need you
I love you. Forever.
