Most of us know the central facts – working Americans have suffered 35 years of stagnant wages. Those flat wages are a big part, the main, part of the reason we can’t get out of our economic crisis. Working families just don’t have enough spending power to drive the economy. I co-wrote a book about this called Getting America Back to Work, which by the way is available now for just $5 a copy.
We know that while wages have been flat, productivity has shot through roof. For the first time since we started keeping statistics, wages have not tracked productivity.
All this is related to the corporate assault on unions, including the destruction of any freedom to form unions and outsourcing good-paying jobs mostly overseas.
AS A RESULT WE HAVE THE BIGGEST INEQUALITY in the world and in our history.
We must continue the fight to restore the freedom to form unions.
NOW COMES THE QUESTION OF THE GRAND BARGAIN – the elimination of the Bush tax cuts for the rich IF Democrats cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Politically, such a deal would be a political disaster for Democrats.
More importantly, any cuts to these three critical programs would worsen our growing inequality – an ongoing crisis that we cannot afford to exasperate.
Democrats must stand firm against cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Let your union members know!
And please take advantage and let those you know and love know that you can get my book Playing Bigger Than You Are for FREE on BLACK FRIDAY as a an e-book from Amazon.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. For all our struggles we have much to be grateful for!
