Wednesday night was another incredibly strong night for the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
There was a very strong discussion of the federal loans to GM and Ford that saved the American auto industry. UAW President Beb King and Blue-Green Alliance Director David Foster were featured in both the victory of the auto industry and Romney’s Bain Capital destruction of jobs in order to jack up their own stock prices, declare bankruptcy, and walk away with billions.
Elizabeth Warren did a great job eviscerating unfettered capitalism and making the case for hers and President Obama’s regulation of Wall St. She made it clear that she should be the next US Senator from Massachusetts.
But the WOW of Wednesday night was Bubba, The Big Dog, and Elvis wrapped up together in Bill Clinton with a 45 minute daunting damnation of Romney, Ryan, and Rightwing Republicans. Not only did Bubba dismantle every crazy idea, vicious idea, and plan of Romney and Ryan and their Rightwingnuts, but The Big Dog also gave a thorough, energetic, emotional defense of President Obama. Clinton said he was asked how he balanced the federal budget after 12 years of Republican deficits, he responded “Arithmetic.” Clinton methodically took apart the Ryan budget. Clinton charged Ryan with lying and playing funny with the money.
As we said in 2000 along with Elvis Costello, “What do you have against peace and prosperity?” Now is not the time to rehash old disagreements with Clinton. Now is the time to celebrate a poor southern boy.
From Hope and Hot Springs, Ark who understands people and has a real empathy for average people and the brilliance to read, study, and think hard about how to make life better for average people in this country and others. As some of us remember from the 90’s, Clinton is great at riffing, improvising in speeches. Riffing during oratory is like improvisation in jazz or blues or taking a solo in rock. It is a southern skill and passion that came from story telling, preaching and playing slide guitar on a guitar made from a cigar box, broomstick, and baling wire.
President Obama took the stage with Clinton. They embraced genuinely.
